Vancouver Table Hockey League - History

In 2003, Vancouverites Dominic Froome and Warren Klotz met and began playing table hockey. There was instantly an instense rivalry formed which then led to the birth of the Vancouver Table Hockey League.

In the 2003-04 season, 12 players competed for the VTHL CUP. The VTHL Cup that year was won by VTHL co-founder and then president, Dominic Froome. Dominic defeated his co-founder and vice-president Warren Klotz to win the coveted prize. Indeed a fitting end to the VTHL's first season.

In the 2004-05 Season, the VTHL welcomed Andrew Bazan and Suke Dosanjh, two higly skilled players who brought the VTHL to a whole new level. Competition that year was very intense as there were a number of players that had the skill to win it all. When all was said and done, Warren Klotz defeated Jeff Christensen to win the VTHL Cup.

Year three (2005-06), had the league lose ten of it's twelve players from the 04-05 season, including co-founder and president Dominic Froome. With Dominic Froome stepping down, Warren Klotz took over the president's position

Though the league lost most of the players, it gained four new regulars. Joining the league were Peter Stensmyr of Sweden, Timo Toivonen of Finland, Harvey Yee of Victoria, B.C and Matt Ross of Ontario. All these talented players brought the league yet to another level of play.

The most talented player, Peter Stensmyr, dominated the season and playoffs, winning the VTHL Cup along the way. Though he was easily the best player, Peter was also the league mentor, as he was constantly giving league members instructions on how to impove their games.

The 2006-07 season wrapped up on July 7th, 2007 with Suke Dosanjh winning the VTHL CUP 4 games to 1 over Warren Klotz. Suke who has always been a very good player, was crowned the VTHL Champion is his third year in the VTHL. Warren Klotz who particpated in his third VTHL Championship Series is now has a record of 1 win and two losses in the Championships.

The VTHL's 2006-07 season saw all the players improve and though the standings don't reflect it, there was definite parity in the league. There was very few easy games for anybody, all the guys were tough to beat.

What a year the 2007-08 season was! In our 5th year we added a Classic Division which featured both a custom Coleco game and a modified Eagle Hockey Night in Canada game. Not only that, but we had the pleasure of the original VTHL President and Co-Founder of the VTHL, Dominic Froome, returning to the league.

Also in the 2007-08 season, our champ Suke Dosanjh was unable to join us to defend his title. As well, Warren Klotz retired at the end season. In Warren's final year, he ended up winning 9 out of a possible 10 awards. Dominic Froome won the other award defeating Harvey Yee for the Stiga VTHL CUP. In the Classic VTHL Cup, Klotz beat Matt Ross.
